A legacy program is inspiring Bronx middle schoolers to forge their own paths in life.
The Woodlawn Student Leadership and Legacy Program recently toured the Woodlawn cemetery with students.
Before going on the tour, director David Ison says the students researched the lives and legacies of many of the notable people buried at the cemetery like Madam C. J. Walker, who was an African-American entrepreneur, philanthropist and a political and social activist.
The program partnered with former New York Rangers player and 1994 Stanley Cup champion Stephane Matteau.
"I wanted to make an impact on the kids," Matteau says. "I wanted to show them that you don't have to make the biggest goals in Rangers history to leave a legacy."
