Legionella bacteria was found in the water supply at Jacobi Medical Center.

Very low levels were found Saturday during a routine testing of the hospital's potable water supply for drinking and preparing food, officials say.

They say aggressive, enhanced water treatment and ongoing monitoring have been underway, and no cases of Legionnaires' disease have been diagnosed at the hospital.

In a statement to News 12, New York City Health and Hospitals said, "Per guidance from the New York state Department of Health, which regulates hospitals, we have taken steps to prevent any impact on our patients, staff, or visitors. Safety is always our highest priority."

Restrictions are in place including using only bottled water, packaged bath wipes for daily hygiene and newly installed water filters in the showers.

Officials say they notified patients and staff.

Officials say the risk to patients, staff, visitors and the surrounding community is very low.

In 2015, the Opera House Hotel was the source of an outbreak which killed 12. In April, one person died from a case of the disease in Co-Op City.
