Firehouses across Long Island are opening their doors this weekend to potential volunteers.

One of the firehouses that needs more volunteers is the North Amityville Fire Company. The Town of Babylon shut it down in January because of delayed response times, allegations of money mismanagement, sexual harassment and violence.

Frank Lee was hired as a consultant by the town to help fix the issues. The fire department opened back in March and grew its force, but still needs more volunteers.

"Simply put, we need more volunteers to come and support their community," Leeb says.

North Amityville Fire Company Fire Chief Thomas Nelson says there are a lot of benefits to being a volunteer like giving back to the community, tax breaks, and education.

"Everything you learn in the fire service here, you can transition to your everyday life," Nelson says.

Recruitment will be going on all weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
