A couple in Malverne is doing their part to protect the planet by living a “zero waste” lifestyle.
Matt and Nicole Lentini have avoided creating waste by composting food scraps, buying products made from natural materials and being creative to repurpose everyday items.
For example, Nicole created reusable tissues out of a cut up shirt, and Matt used an old skateboard deck to create a shoe rack.
The couple told News 12 that they only take out the trash three times a year.
Nicole says anyone interested in living a zero-waste lifestyle should "evaluate your trash.”
“What do you produce the most, and see if you can maybe switch things out," she says.
The couple says the little amount of trash they throw out comes from guests visiting their home or junk mail.
