The man accused of running over an EMT worker back in 2017 was in court on Thursday.
Jose Gonzales is accused of hijacking and running over EMT worker Yadira Arroyo with her own ambulance in March 2017.
In court on Thursday, he demanded a new lawyer and claimed he's been forced by his attorney to plead guilty. When the judge denied that request, Gonzales became angry.
Gonzales proceeded to shout at the judge to change his attorney. He was carted away by court officers and was heard screaming profanity in a back room area.
At one point, he yelled out a derogatory word and screamed "I'll kill you," referring to his lawyer.
Gonzales has undergone several psychiatric evaluations to determine if he's competent to stand trial. A final determination was expected today, but it has been rescheduled due to an unexpected illness by Gonzales' current psychiatrist.
Arroyo's family has been waiting for more than two years for the case to go to trial. They believe Gonzales' actions today are stall tactics to delay justice.
