A man was sentenced Thursday to 15 years for the shooting of a 3-year-old back in 2013.
Luis Oyola Jr. was walking with his mother in Vidalia Park when they were caught in the crossfire of a shootout. Oyola, now 6, was hit in the arm by a stray bullet fired by Alexis Tatis. The boy survived, but has needed physical therapy and counseling since the shooting.
Tatis asked for forgiveness from God and the boy's family. The family said they forgive him but that nothing will change what happened.
Oyola's family is now trying to get Luisito's Law passed. It would require a minimum sentence of 3 ½ to 15 years in prison for anyone firing a gun within 500 feet of a park, playground or school yard.
