Manhattan College holds viewing for Pope Francis' UN address
Dozens of students and staff at Manhattan College got together Friday for a special viewing of Pope Francis' speech to the United Nations.
The pope's address, which coincides with the U.N.'s 70th anniversary, marks the fifth time in history a pope has addressed a U.N. assembly. His speech discussed climate change and the well-being of humankind.
More than 50 students saw the pontiff in person at Madison Square Garden during Friday's procession. Nelson Dalez, an environmental engineering student, attended the viewing and saw the pope at MSG as well.
"This whole week has been dynamic, viewing the pope in Congress and addressing the U.N. today. Being able to actually see him in person after seeing him on TV all this week is going to be pretty cool," says Dalez.
Students and faculty at Manhattan College along with people from 50 other colleges wore shirts with the hashtag "higheredwithpope" at papal events as a symbol of unity among Catholic universities.
