Scott Vaaller's sprinklers aren't for watering the grass -- they're for fending off intruding urinators.
The Long Beach man says his security cameras would catch drunken patrons from nearby West End Taverns stumbling into his alleyway to relieve themselves just about every weekend.
So he installed several motion-activated sprinklers, and his home surveillance system has been rolling on the reactions of drunken trespassers. The result has been YouTube gold.
"It's used to keep like animals off your property, like deer and other animals," Vaaller says of his sprinkler model. "I just use it on a different type of animal."
He says the water defense is working, and his videos are trending online. So he came up with a new "trap," and it's something straight out of "Home Alone." He placed a bucket at the end of the alley rigged with a trip wire, that's aimed to dunk the unsuspecting intruder with water.
Scott's neighbors -- who deal with the same problems -- think he's a hero for his unique security system.
"He sends us the videos all the time -- you watch the people walk in the back, all of the sudden the sprinkler goes off," says resident Mike Munzel.
As the summer beach season revs up, Vaaller says his hoses are at the ready and his cameras rolling.
"Wait until Monday -- I'll have a bunch more probably," he says.
