A Bronx community honored the victims of drug abuse and addiction Wednesday night.
A march and vigil down Arthur Avenue in Belmont featured friends and families affected by drug abuse, with many remembering those who lost their battle with addiction.
The march went from Arthur Avenue, where participants also held a candlelight vigil, up to Crotona Park and Abraham Plaza.
Those participating hoped to use their stories to help others from falling down the same path, while helping other families affected on the road to recovery.
"My son died of this terrible disease five years ago, and I've been coming back ever since he passed away,” said Mary Lou Mooney. “I try to come down and see the people here to give them my support.”
Mooney added that it took her a long time to be able to admit the cause of her son’s death.
“But I can say it now, because I know it's a disease, and I know he was a good person," she said.
Also among those marching was a recovering addict who said he came out to fight the stigma of addiction and to let others know that there is help available.
