Master pumpkin carver shows skills at Botanical Gardens
Larger-than-life pumpkins are rolling into the Botanical Gardens Saturday for an annual pumpkin carving session.
Master carver Ray Villafane is holding carving sessions at the Botanical Gardens this weekend, demonstrating his skills. Villafane will be working on a giant pumpkin weighing 1,363 pounds.
Villafane regularly appears on the Food Network for carving competitions, and was recently a finalist on "Halloween Wars."
Villafane and his team work for hours until they get a pumpkin to look exactly how they want it. He says his hobby has turned into an obsession.
"There's a charm to putting a face onto a pumpkin," says Villafane. "It's almost magical, it's fun. The pumpkin seems to come alive and you can't help but smile. It's addicting."
