Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday that Ferry Park will be receiving a new ferry landing by 2021.
Resident Dorothea Poggi says she leads two local groups that have been fighting to bring back boat service for years. She says one stop, Ferry Point Park, hasn't been used for ferries for more than eight decades.
The new Throgs Point landing will join the other Bronx stop at Clason Point on the Soundview line that opened last year in August.
The Soundview line connects the borough to three Manhattan stops and takes 51 minutes to get from one end to the other.
Information has not yet been released on the exact location of the new ferry landing.
Residents tell News 12 The Bronx they're excited for ferry service especially since it costs the same amount as the subway. They also say businesses in the area like the Trump Golf Course and the Throgs Neck Shopping Center might also see a boost in customers.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. issued a statement that reads in part, "Mayor de Blasio's announcement of expanded service in Throgs Neck is a welcome one. New service at Ferry Point is a victory for The Bronx."
