While the holidays are meant to be a festive time, they can get a little hectic and cause stress for some.
Busy travel days, the shopping chaos and uncomfortable conversations around the dinner table are some things many will experience during the holidays.
"Even though you see the holiday spirit around you, people being cheerful around you, but yeah, bunch of people are stressed out about it," says Dr. Deval Zaveri, of NYC Health + Hospitals. She adds that stress can take a toll on an individual.
So, what can one do to ensure that the holiday season is not a stressful period?
"Self-care is really important as well while you're focusing on other," Dr. Zaveri says. "Maintaining a good level of sleep, exercise, keeping yourself hydrated. I know holiday parties, there's some drinking, So everything in moderation..."
But Dr. Zevari says stress can come from other things.
"People who are busy, who are working, don't have time off or have families living far away. So I think it's really important to stay connected," Dr. Zevari says. She wants people to know it's not about planning the perfect holiday, but that it's about valuing each other. “All that we need is to be with someone who we love, we care about and that's what matters.”
Dr. Zevari also wants to remind people to keep in mind people in their lives who may be going through a tough time.
"Anyone who is not their usual, anyone who needs that extra support,” she says. “Please attend to that. Make sure you speak to your loved ones, call them, give them a call, give them a nice hug."
