Miss Puerto Rico pageant held in the Bronx
The 29 Miss Puerto Rico pageant was held Sunday in the Bronx.
In addition to the queen, a princess of the commonwealth was also announced. The two winners will get to march in the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade at the end of the month.
The winners were chosen by a panel of judges based on presentation, public speaking, cultural knowledge, social behavior and etiquette.
The participants ranged in age between six and 60.
The purpose of the pageant was to gain self-confidence, self-esteem and pride for the Puerto Rican community.
In addition to marching in the parade, the queen and princess will represent the Puerto Rican community throughout the year at civic functions and other affairs.
