One of the most popular sporting goods shops in Norwalk is closing its doors for good.
Mister Sports was the go-to place for kids of all ages. For 33 years, Mister Sports has been helping customers find brand-name gear.
"Jordans, Nike. We were a big carrier in every brand," says Mister Sports employee Earl Tweedie.
Tweedie has been working at the store for 23 years.
"We were only half this size. I've seen us blow up to take over two other stores, and oh yes I watched it grow," says Tweedie.
Mister Sports says it had lines out the door with people trying to get their hands on Michael Jordan shoes a few years ago. The store had to give out raffle tickets and pick the tickets that were eligible to buy the shoes.
But now all the items in the store must go. After three decades, the landmark will soon be just a memory.
"Due to COVID and the shortness of the products from the main merchandisers, it's a shortage and it's hard to pay the rent and it's hard to get by," says Tweedie.
Generations will remember Mister Sports.
"It's almost like the barbershop where you can go have a nice conversation with the employee working there and spend money and just enjoy, have a good time," says Tweedie.
Mister Sports will close for good this Sunday at 5 p.m.
"We want to say thank you for your years of shopping with us," says Tweedie.
