A family in the Mitchel Houses in Mott Haven says NYCHA is ignoring their pleas to fix a leak in their apartment that has caused immense damage.
They say they've contacted NYCHA six times about the leak in their first-floor apartment. The family of 10 says they have to use bowls, plastic crates and whatever they can use to collect dirty water leaking from their ceiling.
The family says they contacted NYCHA the day after the leak started and were promised several times that a maintenance team would stop by, but that hasn't happened yet.
They say the paint is bubbling and peeling, and that their flooring is coming up due to wet conditions.
Several children live in the apartment. The family claims they called the FDNY, and that they determined a leaking upper-floor toilet is the root of the problem.
News 12 reached out to NYCHA, and was told its staff would visit the resident's apartment today and will follow up with her to complete any subsequent repairs.
