The city's Parks Department says a playground in Morris Park is on tap for major renovations as many families describe it as a "forgotten playground."

Families and children at Loreto Playground say a facelift is needed to bring the fun times back. The Parks Department tells News 12 it's already planning an extensive transformation.

A major concern among parents is the equipment that the children play on. They say a lot of it hasn't been properly checked.

Families say they have seen years of rapid decline in the upkeep of the playground, explaining that children are getting hurt because of faulty equipment that isn't being checked or properly fixed. They also say garbage piles up for days before officials empty the few trash cans made available.

Those who came to the playground as children say they're bringing their own children to a playground that hasn't seen a spec of positive change.

A spokesperson from the Parks Department says in part, "Loreto Playground is on tap to receive an extensive transformation. Upon its completion, the playground will feature an asphalt baseball and soccer area, game tables and seating areas, a walking track, and many more fantastic amenities."

They say the project is on the agency's schedule.
