A Bronx mother has been charged with murder in connection with the death of her infant.
Police say 5-month-old Raymond Porfil died inside a Bronx River Avenue apartment June 4 after his mother, Joann McLeod, threw him against a wall. Police responded to the apartment that night and found the boy unconscious and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.
A small memorial in memory of the child now sits outside of the apartment.
"Our top priority is protecting the safety and wellbeing of all children in New York City," a spokesperson for New York City Administration for Children's Services, said in a statement.
News 12 spoke with the baby's uncle, who says he is distraught over the boy's death. He says the couple has at least one other child together, although the whereabouts of that child were not immediately available.
The medical examiner will determine the manner and cause of death for Raymond.
