A Mott Haven mosque is receiving 24-hour security after being the target of multiple acts of vandalism.
The mosque that stands on Alexander Avenue was shot with a BB gun Monday night. The shooting left the front door damaged and the Imam at the mosque says a similar incident happened Saturday.
He says that as many as four other BB gun shootings happened at the mosque during Ramadan last year. The mosque says no one has been seriously injured but that it is scary for their members.
Police say the incident has been officially ruled a hate crime and posters have been displayed in the area offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The imam says that they are grateful for the increased security that the mosque is getting.
"We appreciate what they're doing and what the community effort do for us," said Mamadou Kamala.
Police tell News 12 they don't have any suspects at this time but that the investigation is ongoing.
