One neighborhood in Mott Haven fears a location designated for children could actually be putting them in harm's way.
Residents say Patterson Playground is not clean, and they don't believe their children are safe there since the area is surrounded by drug activity and crime.
One resident who works for BOOM!Health, a neighborhood outreach network, says he personally picks up at least five syringes at the park each day.
He says children play in the same places he picks up the used needles, which is a major health concern.
Residents also say that the city is not keeping up with park maintenance and cleaning.
Officials from the Parks Department say they make periodic stops at the park, and are not aware of any drug-related issues there.
