A playground in the South Bronx's largest park has gotten a well-deserved makeover.
St. Mary's Playground West project is now complete following a yearlong, $4 million fix-up. The New York City Parks Department and local officials cut the ribbon on the refurbished playground Wednesday.
The project renovated the outdated equipment to create new recreational space. Kids can now play on the swings or in the new spray showers. There are also colorful pavements with play patterns and restored basketball courts.
Fencing was taken out to make for a more open environment. Trees and plants now add greenery to the space as well.
Additionally, families can utilize picnic tables and updated seating areas.
The project was the first time the Mott Haven park had been updated since 1988.
