The MTA met with community members, and zero-emissions experts on Saturday in Norwood for an informational session on their new hydrogen fuel cell buses.
In 2022, the MTA won an $8 million grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) as part of its Electric Truck & Bus Challenge grants. The grant money is being used to deploy two hydrogen fuel cell buses out of the Gun Hill Road Depot.
Saturday’s event allowed community members to engage with zero-emissions experts as well as clean hydrogen technology experts from the project team to learn more about the technology.
The buses will run on approximately eight routes, serving communities in the northeast and central Bronx.
The MTA says they have committed to a zero-emission bus fleet by 2040.
