MTA plans to improve service near Bay Plaza Mall
Changes to ease traffic and congestion near the Bay Plaza Mall are about to become a reality.
MTA officials have listened to commuters who have been complaining about severe crowding at the bus stop near the mall. They plan to expand weekend service for the Bx5 bus beginning in September. That means the Bay Plaza Mall will be the last stop instead of Pelham Bay.
Commuters say they are happy to hear the news because they are tired of being crammed on the buses.
MTA officials say they hope the change will provide better transportation to South Bronx shoppers who don't have direct access to the mall.
