MTA: Road reopens after truck strikes, damages overpass
Traffic was backed up around East Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue for hours Tuesday after a truck hit an elevated subway underpass in the area, according to the MTA. The crash happened around 1 p.m.

Traffic was backed up around East Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue for hours Tuesday after a truck hit an elevated subway underpass in the area, according to the MTA.
The crash happened around 1 p.m. Crews were making repairs to the damage as the evening rush kicked off. Officials say a metal beam fell from the overpass. Another beam was also replaced.
Walton Avenue and East Fordham Road were blocked off, and traffic was redirected around the scene for hours.
In what appeared to be an unrelated project, construction workers were also laying tar below the underpass, compounding the congestion.
The driver who struck the overpass fled the scene, officials say.
Officials say it was still safe for trains to pass throughout the ordeal.
