A vehicle crashed into the Atlantic Navy Yard just before 1 p.m. Friday, according to the NYPD and MTA.
The driver of the car, a 70-year-old man, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Methodist Hospital. A woman was in the passenger seat and was also transported to Methodist Hospital, where she is in critical condition.
Police say they believe the driver of the vehicle suffered a medical episode, causing him to lose control. It appears that the car crashed through a layer of cement barrier and a fence, landing hundreds of feet below near train tracks in the yard.
Many commuters in the area witnessed this incident, and NYPD and MTA police were around the black Audi SUV that crashed down into Atlantic Navy Yard.
Police have not yet removed the car from the yard, and none of the surrounding trains by the car have been moved to operate.
The MTA says that this incident is not set to impact service.
There is no impact to service at this time.
This is a developing story.
