Frustrated residents in Parkchester came together Saturday to clean up what they say is a dangerous stretch of Bronx River Avenue.
The one-way street separated by a concrete barrier was aimed to give pedestrians a little more safety. But residents say no one could walk on the path because it was used as a dumping ground, until community members conducted a cleanup.
Residents say the road was even more dangerous because it used to be a two-way street before the barrier was set up.
Residents also raised concerns about how city plans for a new renovated park in the area may attract more children near the dangerous roadway.
The Department of Transportation responded to the situation by saying it is the responsibility of the property owners in the area to install sidewalks. But the community board says that the path is not on anyone's property.
