Neighbors mourn victims of Morris Park crash
Morris Park residents gathered at a vigil on Sunday evening to mourn the loss of three victims killed in a fatal car crash on Halloween.
Police say a Dodge Charger, driven by a 52-year-old man hit a car, jumped onto the sidewalk and struck the victims just before 5 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Morris Park and Bogart avenues.
Officials say 65-year-old Louis Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. Perez's 10-year-old granddaughter, Nyanna Aquil, and 24-year-old Kristian Leka were taken to Jacobi Medical Center where they were also pronounced dead.
Nyanna Aquil's mother, Natalia Perez, said she was numb after the incident, but had to be strong for her other children. Her daughters, 8-year-old Sayana and 3-year-old Yasmina, were released from the hospital after suffering some minor injures in the incident.
A third victim is believed to still be in the hospital and expected to be OK.
The driver is in stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center.
There is no word yet on what caused the crash.
