Nets forward gives former school shopping spree
Brooklyn Nets forward Chris McCullough gave 10 lucky students from I.S. 151 the ultimate shopping trip as an early Christmas gift.
McCullough spent time with the students and treated them to a $300 shopping spree at the Modell's Sporting Goods near the Barclays Center. McCullough, who attended the school as a kid, said he wanted to give back to the school that shaped him.
"It's the holiday time I feel like a lot of kids don't get what they want and I felt like I could provide what they need," said the NBA star.
Students of the school say that McCullough's professional success inspires them to succeed, too.
"I feel really good because it's like he started where we are and I think it's really nice that he can give back," said student Jade Soto.
Ms. Garcia, McCullough's science teacher and tutor when he was a student, recalls when the 6'9" forward came into the sixth grade and even when he was drafted by the NBA.
Garcia said they still talk once a month and while she's extremely proud of his success, she's still on his case making sure he plans on going to college.
