New funding headed to Bronx LGBT group
A Bronx group who politicians say is underserved by the government is getting some much-needed funding.
In recognition of National Coming Out Day, Sen. Jeffrey Klein announced $150,000 in state support of the Sage Center's outreach.
"It's not only going to improve lives, it is going to save lives," Klein says.
The money will go toward increasing the activities and programs at the center and make it possible to serve even more LGBT elders.
Klein says he hopes to make the money an annual allocation in the budget.
Councilman Ritchie Torres says the center serves as a second family for some and has a real impact in saving lives.
