A new gaming center will offer workshops on entrepreneurship, community engagement and more for Bronx students.
DreamYard's BX Start Gaming Space is more than just a place to play video games. It's looking to change the way games are made. The multibillion-dollar gaming industry is predominantly white and male, and this gaming center is looking to change that.
Director of Entrepreneurship and Gaming Rudy Blanco says, "We also want to uplift our community members to be able to offer them resources of support around starting businesses and just highlighting entrepreneurial initiatives that exist here in the Bronx."
Chelsea John, who runs the programs at BX Start says she is looking forward to what the center will create.
"I think it's really important for a space like this to exist because it connects folks, it creates a sense of community," said John.
BX Start is supported by AT&T and the DreamYard Project and will also offer pop-up shops, as well as weekly and monthly tournaments.
DreamYard also operates the DreamYard Art Center in Morrisiana that opened in 2009.
