Medicare recipients in the Bronx will soon be getting a new card that has less information on it to help curb identity theft.

The new cards will no longer feature the person's Social Security number. Instead, they will have a Medicare number that is unique to each recipient.

Residents from R.A.I.N. Senior Center went to the Bronx County Building Wednesday to learn more about the cards and what to do with their old ones.

Deputy Bronx Borough President Marricka Scott-McFadden says it's important to properly dispose of the old cards, ideally by shredding.

The new cards started being mailed across the country in April, but Scott-McFadden says Bronx residents will be getting them in coming weeks.
