A landmark building in Concourse Village is being repaired and restored thanks to a new owner and management company.
The building at 888 Grand Concourse was on the city's worst landlord list in 2015. Problems included rent strikes and numerous court battles between the former owner and the tenants.
Crews have been repairing the building for the past three weeks. Changes included a new heating system, new security cameras and new equipment in the laundry room.
“It will take a little time,” says Barry Nissan, who has lived as a tenant for more than 40 years. He says he's enthusiastic about what he sees.
The management company says they will also be repainting the lobby walls and are planning to bring in a historian to suggest options. They say tenants will then vote on a permanent color.
They say the building's original flooring and front entrance will also be restored.
