New residential building opens on Webster Ave.
A commercial corridor that used to be zoned for industrial use is getting a boost in residents and retail space under a new rezoning plan.
Community leaders came together Tuesday to officially welcome the Bedford Park Manor to Webster Avenue. The seven-story complex is the first residential building under a rezoning plan for the mile-long Webster Avenue corridor that stretches from Fordham to Gun Hill Road.
Before 2011, the area was designated for light industrial use, but now it's rezoned for residential and retail space.
Community leaders say that the new residential complex will provide middle-class families with affordable housing and improve the look of the Webster Avenue corridor.
The Bedford Park Manor is just the beginning for Webster Avenue. Several more residential buildings will be developed along the corridor, bringing more foot traffic for local businesses in the future.
