New Wi-Fi kiosk unveiled on West Kingsbridge Road in the Bronx
City officials unveiled a new kiosk that offers free Wi-Fi and cellphone charging on West Kingsbridge Road in the Bronx Thursday.
They say placing kiosks around the city is part of the 'Link NYC' movement, which helps provide technology that has become a necessity to many living in the city.
All kiosks offer free Wi-Fi, free calling, phone charging and access to Google Maps.
Officials say the kiosks are even equipped with a quick access button to reach 911 in case of emergency.
Officials stress that getting the kiosks operational in the Bronx has been a top priority for the program.
They say one in four New Yorkers do not have access to high-speed internet at home, many of whom are living in the Bronx.
City officials say more than 300 kiosks have been placed around the city and more are being activated in the Bronx every week.
