Nonprofit breaks ground on new community school
The Children's Aid Society broke ground on a new facility Tuesday.
The new 73,000-square-foot building will house the Children's Aid Society Prep Charter School for children from kindergarten through fifth grade.
The six-story building will also serve as a resource center for several neighborhoods in the Morrisania area, with an art room, modern science and media center, gymnasium and cafeteria.
Dozens of community leaders joined Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. to celebrate the new development. The leaders say that the school will help prepare young Bronx students for high school.
Construction is expected to last several months. The school is scheduled to open in August 2016.
