Students from Yeshivah of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School have teamed up with survivors of the Holocaust throughout the month of May.

It’s in honor of Yom Hashoah, also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Surviving the Holocaust, Fred Terna has made it his mission to pass on his story. 

“We said to each other, the one who survives is going to tell the story,” says Terna.

Last year, he joined Selfhelp Community Services, a non-profit that’s pairing up survivors with high school students.

Over eight months, students learn about their war stories, of concentration camps and murdered families. Then, they’re casted to play them in a performance at the school. 

High school student Perry Sanders was casted to play Terna.

“It’s really changed my perspective on life and how so many people were affected by this great tragedy,” says Sanders.
