Nurses set up shop Thursday outside of 851 Grand Concourse to educate mothers about breastfeeding resources and to raise awareness.
Coming from Bronx hospitals like NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, Montefiore Medical Center and NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx, they challenged new moms who are able to breastfeed to do so. Doctors say breast milk is the best food an infant can have during early development.
Residents were able to learn about the resources available to them at area hospitals, including lactation consultants and trained registered nurses who can teach moms how to breastfeed and pump. They were also encouraged to think about nursing before even giving birth.
The deputy borough president says the Bronx is a breastfeeding-friendly borough and that Thursday's meeting was part of an ongoing campaign to keep Bronx residents healthy.
