NY Public Library announces top books of 2015
The New York Public Library released its end-of-the-year list of the most checked-out books of 2015.
Michael Alvarez, of the Bronx Library Center, says different communities chose different top books, but in 35 locations in the Bronx, the most-borrowed book was actually a test-review book.
Alvarez says that the Test Assessing Secondary Completion prep book ranking first comes as no surprise to librarians.
The selection coincides with an increase in graduation rates across the city, according to the Department of Education, although the Bronx ranks the lowest with just over 59 percent.
The second- and third-place books in the Bronx were the novels "NYPD Red 3," by James Patterson and Marshall Karp, and "Leaving Time," by Jodi Picoult.
Across the entire city, "Leaving Time" is the top-ranked book, followed by "Girl on the Train," by Paula Hawkins and "Go Set a Watchman," Harper Lee's long-awaited sequel to her classic, "To Kill a Mockingbird."
