New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina announced new translation measures Monday for parents who don't speak English as a first language.
The move will ensure that public schools provide full access to translation services for parents who need to contact the school about their children's education.
Previously, schools would have to contact a third-party translation and interpretation unit. The new move eliminates that step.
Interpreters are available for 200 languages. The program began in December and has received more than 1,500 calls already.
