A Bronx resident is looking for answers from the New York City Housing Authority on why the conditions he and his family are living in are so poor.

 

Bengally Gakou lives in an apartment in the Mitchel Houses, and says he has had to spend around $3,000 replacing carpets due to leaks from his toilet, bathtub and walls.

 

Gakou says he had to go through hours of sewage cleanup on Friday, and has had flooded floors at least three times. He says he has received little help from NYCHA to fix the issues.

 

The 46-year-old father of five says maintenance workers broke a hole in his bathroom wall over a year ago in an attempt to fix a pipe and left the wall uncovered. NYCHA has apparently come to temporarily stop the leak, but Gakou's family has been forced to clean up after it several times.

 

NYCHA says that the problem has been addressed and that a waste line break was apparently repaired on Saturday by plumbers.

 

Gakou is still skeptical and says he is ready with carpet cleaner and heaters should the problem happen again.
