Some New York City Housing Authority staff members were reassigned to work at a different location after allegedly having inappropriate sexual relations while on the job.
The staff members worked inside the Throggs Neck Houses.
Monique Johnson and Lehra Brooks, of the Throggs Neck Resident Council and who act as mediators between residents and staff, say the shakeup was a long time coming.
"They were moved because there were many allegations of sexual misconduct from the supervisors with their subordinates," Johnson says.
According to the New York City Department of Investigations, NYCHA officials agreed to take certain steps after a complaint was received earlier this month.
A NYCHA spokesperson said, "We've had longstanding concerns about management and performance issues at Throggs Neck. Those concerns, coupled with troubling allegations of misconduct, are why the staff was reassigned. We can't comment further on an ongoing investigation."
In a statement, Sen. Jeff Klein said, "New allegations that some of these staff members engaged in sexual misconduct and abuse warrant an immediate investigation. Should these claims be true, we must ensure that the culpable employees are not just suspended and eventually transferred to other NYCHA developments, but instead permanently removed from NYCHA."
A NYCHA spokesperson also says new staff started at the Throggs Neck Houses Monday. They did not indicate that any previous staff was fired, but rather reassigned to other locations.
