Investigations are underway after two police-involved shootings across the city in just a matter of hours.
A man was shot in the Bronx overnight and another man was fatally shot in Gowanus on Tuesday.
Police say 30-year-old Nasheem Prioleau was shot around 8 p.m. Tuesday near the Gowanus Houses on the corner of Baltic and Hoyt streets.
Police tell News 12 two plainclothes officers were patrolling near the Gowanus Houses when they saw Prioleau firing a gun at another man.
News 12 is told the two officers identified themselves as police officers and told the suspect to drop his weapon and then fired a number of times at him. Police say he was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but passed away around 1 a.m.
“(He) has an extensive criminal history, including multiple violent felony convictions, for which he previously had been on parole for,” says NYPD Chief of Department Terrence Monahan.
Police say Prioleau had a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Police say he was just released from prison last week after five years.
Prioleau's mother tells News 12 she is devastated and wants answers.
"I can't believe he's gone. And at that, by New York City Police Department. This is crazy," says LaShann Tyre.
The two officers were not hurt but were taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
The investigation is ongoing.
