NYPD beefs up security at mosques across NYC
In the wake of the terrorist attacks on mosques in New Zealand, security across the borough has been beefed up.
The imam at a Parkchester mosque tells News 12 that some people in his community are on edge after the tragedy.
Something to which unfortunately they've become too accustomed.

“People are scared of everything, because all they see on breaking news is another mass shooting. All they see is violence. All they see is extreme hatred,” says Sheik Musa Drammeh, Imam at Masjid Al Iman.

Despite fear, the imam says he has seen the religious community ban together, working to provide support to the victims.

“The beauty in the most horrendous situation is that you know since 5 a.m. I’ve been getting calls from the Muslims, non-Muslims, the Jewish community, Christians, Catholics, even foreigners are calling me and asking me what can we do,” says Drammeh.

The massacre took place at two mosques in the city of Christchurch. Both attacks were apparently live-streamed on Facebook. New Zealand’s prime minister called the shootings “a well-thought out terror attack.”
In the wake of the attack, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted: What good are your thoughts & prayers when they don’t even keep the pews safe? After receiving criticism online and from Councilman Fernando Cabrera, she clarified her statement:
“Thoughts and prayers” is reference to the NRA’s phrase used to deflect conversation away from policy change during tragedies. Not directed to PM Ardern, who I greatly admire.

The NYPD says they'll be stepping up security at several mosques in the city.
