Investigators are seeking two male suspects who allegedly stole the passenger's gold chain right off his neck.
Police say the driver chased the thieves and was shot twice for his efforts.
The 52-year-old victim drove himself to Jacobi Medical Center, where he is in stable condition, according to authorities.
Police are looking for two men, one black and one Hispanic, both in their early 20s.
