NYPD: Crossing guards wanted
The NYPD is pushing to recruit more crossing guards amid a citywide shortage.
Officials say there are around 400 open positions as guards to help children safely cross the street near schools.
Representatives of the crossing guards union say City Council added $2 million to this year's budget to make room for 80 new positions in addition to 325 existing open positions.
The NYPD says regular police officers have had to step in to cover the shortfall.
The jobs are part time, but offer full-time benefits for those who work more than 20 hours a week. The starting rate is $11.75.
