A man slashed a little boy's head with a box cutter in a mosque Sunday afternoon, according to police and surveillance video.

The man allegedly rushed into the Longwood Avenue building around 2 p.m., alarming worshippers as he fled a group of men pursuing him.

Mosque leaders say they tried to force the man out the door, but he rushed toward Mohammed Dieye, 6, and slashed his head along the way.

Mohammed was taken to Lincoln Hospital and given stitches.

Police say they do not believe the man intentionally cut the boy, but they are still investigating. The suspect is described as roughly 30 years old.
