Police say a man was critically injured when he crashed his moped into a woman crossing the street on the Grand Concourse.
A 35-year-old man was operating the scooter when he struck a 46-year-old woman crossing the street around 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to the NYPD.
The incident happened at the intersection of East 181st Street. Police blocked off the roadway with caution tape as the man's moped was lying on its side and pieces of broken plastic were spread across the street.
Authorities say both he and the woman he hit were taken to the hospital. The woman is in stable condition and is expected to be OK. The moped driver is in critical condition.
It's unclear who was at fault, but residents of the neighborhood say reckless driving has become an issue on the street.
"They're flying up and down here like they have no sense," said one Bronx resident on the scene.
"It makes me really worried walking anywhere when they speed," said another resident.
