NYPD officer dragged by car in Brooklyn
A nine-year veteran of the NYPD remains in critical condition after being dragged by a car Saturday night in Brooklyn.
Officials say Officer Dalsh Veve was part of a group of six plainclothes officers that responded to a call of shots fired at a party on Tilden Avenue near East 53th Street just before midnight.
Those shots turned out to be just fireworks, but Veve noticed a black Honda sedan parked illegally in front of a fire hydrant across the street. When he approached the car it took off, dragging the 35-year-old officer for two and a half blocks before he became free and fell to the street.
Police say the teen driver along with others inside the car ran off after it crashed on Church and Snyder avenues.
NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill said in a news conference Sunday morning that a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his face walked into Brookdale Hospital where he is in serious condition.
It is believed that teen was driving the car - which was stolen from Long Island several days ago - and that he suffered his injuries after Veve fired his service weapon twice while being dragged.
Veve was taken to Kings County Hospital and is in critical condition. Police say Veve is married with a 2-year-old daughter .
