With reassuring words and a firm grip, officers captured on bodycam began a life-saving rescue operation.
Police responded to a distress call last Wednesday, finding a 33-year-old woman perched on the building's edge on West 29th Street. Video shows an officer tethered to a rope joining another Emergency Service Unit member over the 7-foot glass wall. Together, they lifted the woman above the wall while officers on the other side secured her.
After the tense rescue, the woman was safely brought to the ground and later taken to Health + Hospitals/Bellevue for evaluation. The NYPD shared the scene on social media, with one user commenting on the incredible display of assistance. The NYPD also posted a reminder for mental health support.
