NYPD statistics: Crime down in every borough
NYPD officials held a press conference Thursday releasing the latest crime statistics for the city.
They say crime has continued to decrease in all of New York's boroughs.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton praised the NYPD, congratulating them on their success at keeping crime down continuously for the past 25 years in a row.
Bratton says that overall, shootings and arrests are down and he attributes these statistics to neighborhoods and pinpoint policing tactics of the NYPD.
Overall, the NYPD says major violent crimes dropped in every borough.
There were 680 fewer incidents of violent crime compared to this time last year, police say.
They say 131 fewer shootings have occurred in the last seven months, and homicides have decreased by 4 percent.
They say there has also been 11,000 fewer arrests.
