Over 50 honor roll students from P.S. 114 were surprised Monday with gifts from the NYPD.
Students gathered in the auditorium expecting to attend a safety presentation from the NYPD. But the safety lesson isn’t all they received.
Officers from the 44th Precinct unveiled 52 custom bikes of all shapes and sizes as a generous reward for students who kept up their grades and good behavior.
Principal Olivia Francis-Weber says she wanted to show her students that hard work pays off. She says she reached out to the community for help in doing so.

The bikes were put together by Larissa Thomas and Stan Sroka, who worked together for weeks with the organization Waste Connections to make the event possible.

Parents say it was exciting to see that their kids’ hard work as honor students paid off so greatly.

Officers who attended the event say they felt like kids again. They say they wanted to remind students the opportunities are endless if they put their mind toward a goal.
